It goes without saying that the first thing you notice about Emmily is how tall she is. The second thing you notice is her amazing smile and excited eyes and the fact that she is just bursting with life.
She's a joy to be around.
I had the privilege this June to not only meet her for the first time in the great city of Chicago, but to stay with her family for a month and take in the city with them and see a lot of museums and art and movies and write a ton. Emmily's one of the smartest people I have ever met in my entire life and I freely admit to not really knowing what she was talking about but nodding wisely as if I understood. (Sorry Em.)
You know how smart people are usually nerds/geeks? It's true. I learned more about the pros and cons of DC, Marvel and Dark Horse comics in those few weeks than I ever have before, and I'm really glad about that. (We might be writing a comic now ourselves?? Crazy stuff.)
She also has this delicious sort of humor that keeps everyone laughing and when it comes to discussions about feminism, oppression of minorities, patriarchal societies...etc, her points are always right on target. She and her mother Lidia and I had a lot of late night discussions and breakfast discussions and on public transit discussions. It was good for the soul.
She's definitely one of those top ranked people in my book and I can't wait to see her again.
